- International School for Holocaust Studies (ISHS), Israel
The aim is to talk to each other about the Holocaust as part of a three-part advanced training course for multipliers of teacher education and further training, which includes a trip to Israel, and to explore new ways and concepts of Holocaust education.
The confrontation with the Holocaust and the question of how this topic is dealt with in class are becoming increasingly important in the discussion about increasing nationalism, right-wing extremism and anti-Semitism.
The Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Israel began diplomatic relations more than 50 years ago. Konrad Adenauer and David Ben Gurion made it possible for both states to enter into direct dialogue again. At that time, both statesmen wanted to talk to each other again and not about each other.
Remembering or dealing with the Holocaust is also becoming increasingly important in view of current developments. Particularly from the past, important knowledge can be gained here for the present and the future.
The International School for Holocaust Studies (ISHS), founded in 1993 within the Yad Vashem Memorial, conducts seminars on Holocaust education for educators from all over the world. One of its main tasks is the development of teaching materials, which, in addition to dealing with the Jewish perspective, also enables the discussion with perpetrators, bystanders and rescuers.
The options for action and decision-making of each individual should be made visible to the students in order to establish a connection between what they have learned and the current reality of life.
