Institute for Didactics and Teacher Training (Vocational Schools) Karlsruhe

 

The Institute for Didactics and Teacher Training (Vocational Schools) in Karlsruhe is the regional centre for the initial training of teachers at vocational schools in the District of Karlsruhe. It is the mission of all our staff to provide top-quality education and training for teachers at vocational schools by creating rich and diverse learning opportunities within our different courses. As a regional centre of excellence in didactics we anticipate future trends in teacher training and constantly strive to develop new programs and services, working collaboratively with teachers and administrators, universities, businesses and our partnership institutions in China, Israel, Lebanon, Poland, Northern Ireland and the USA. We are also a competence centre for e-learning.

Our Institute has 160 staff and up to 500 postgraduate students who want to enter the teaching profession. Besides, we offer professional support and guidance to nearly 400 undergraduate university students on school placements during their course of studies as well as further education courses for in-service teachers.

 

Our main programmes are:

  • Postgraduate Initial Teacher Training Courses for Academic teachers (18-month course)
  • Postgraduate Initial Training Courses for Technical Teachers (domestic science, commerce)
  • Educational / Didactical training for teachers in technical fields (trades)
  • On-the-job training for lateral entry teachers
  • Further education for in-service teachers
